February 2021- Urban Alliance on Race Relations

February is Black History Month. Although Black Lives and Black History matter and are significant 365 days a year, we felt it was important that we dedicate this month’s donation to services that will uphold those values.

Urban Alliance on Race Relations (UARR) is a non-profit organization that works primarily and proactively with the community, private, and public sectors to create educational programs and research critical to addressing systemic and societal racism.

The UARR was founded in 1975 and is based in Toronto. They are committed to coalition building and have several projects in the works. A few examples of the organizations they are currently working with include Humber College, the Toronto District School Board, One Toronto, and Equity Toronto. Additionally, the UARR has 9 ongoing projects all of which are education, community, and youth-focused. Some of these projects include Race and Equity Education, the Youth Racial Justice Summit on Education, and their Diverse Youth Fellowship.

With the momentous surge of allyship from the Black Lives Matter protests this summer, now is as important a time as ever to shift our focus this month and educate ourselves on our own biases and/or privilege. Charities such as the UARR work to fulfill this exact purpose.
